Pick up a copy of the book, and then join us each month to get the lowdown on effective parenting from the Nanny that knows! This month Nanny Stella offers some words of advice for single parenthood. Do your practices work as effectively with Single parents? My practices work with all family types as long as whoever is interacting with the children is consistent, says what they mean and means it, whether this be the parent parents babysitter grandparents etc. You can refer to the eleven commandments of the book for help with this. What is the biggest challenge single parents face? Being Mom and Dad Being consistent Lack of support from a partner. That said some people in a relationship feel they act as a single parent. Do you have specific advice for single parents? Surround yourself with a community of family friends that can help when it gets tough. Don't be afraid to ask for help support. Trade off with other parents when you need a break if you can. Have you noticed a significant difference between children from growing up in a single parent household versus a two-parent household? I personally have not noticed a significant difference, I have read information that states that children who grow up with only one of their parents are more likely to drop out of high school, more likely to be out of school and out of work, than children who grow up with both parents. They also have poorer attendance records, lower grade point averages and lower hopes of attending college. Some information states that as adults, they have higher rates of divorce. I believe that good parenting skills can be displayed with one parent just as bad parenting skills can be displayed with two parents - bottom line it depends on the parent parents. WC: ;WA: ; |
